Once upon a time this Greenspan existed. Here is a piece he wrote when he was 41 titled GOLD AND ECONOMIC FREEDOM:
When business in the United States underwent a mild contraction in 1927, the Federal Reserve created more paper reserves in the hope of forestalling any possible bank reserve shortage. More disastrous, however, was the Federal Reserve’s attempt to assist Great Britain who had been losing gold to us because the Bank of England refused to allow interest rates to rise when market forces dictated (it was politically unpalatable). The reasoning of the authorities involved was as follows: if the Federal Reserve pumped excessive paper reserves into American banks, interest rates in the United States would fall to a level comparable with those in Great Britain; this would act to stop Britain’s gold loss and avoid the political embarrassment of having to raise interest rates.
This was included in one of my favorite books Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal. Greenspan goes on in GOLD AND ECONOMIC FREEDOM.
The "Fed" succeeded; it stopped the gold loss, but it nearly destroyed the economies of the world in the process. The excess credit which the Fed pumped into the economy spilled over into the stock market — triggering a fantastic speculative boom. Belatedly, Federal Reserve officials attempted to sop up the excess reserves and finally succeeded in braking the boom. But it was too late: by 1929 the speculative imbalances had become so overwhelming that the attempt precipitated a sharp retrenching and a consequent demoralizing of business confidence. As a result, the American economy collapsed. Great Britain fared even worse, and rather than absorb the full consequences of her previous folly, she abandoned the gold standard completely in 1931, tearing asunder what remained of the fabric of confidence and inducing a world-wide series of bank failures. The world economies plunged into the Great Depression of the 1930’s.
Fast forward 42 years and apparently Greenspan has decided that freedom, to succeed or in this case fail, is not that important anymore.
The US government may have to nationalise some banks on a temporary basis to fix the financial system and restore the flow of credit, Alan Greenspan, the former Federal Reserve chairman, has told the Financial Times.
In an interview, Mr Greenspan, who for decades was regarded as the high priest of laisser-faire capitalism, said nationalisation could be the least bad option left for policymakers. Apparently Greenspan has gone native. Meaning that he has become the corruption he once fought in Washington DC. He has accepted the idea that failure must be avoided. But failure is what keeps the system tuned to it’s peak. Failure is the survival of the fittest. Businesses should be allowed to fail exactly because it would encourage everyone involved to pay more attention to their finances than to what the stats are to their favorite football team. Responsibility has vanished from our land. We have accepted the idea that it is governments job to do our due diligence. We have become so naive because of our abdicating our responsibilities that we actually believe the government has our best interests at heart. My goodness that is absurd whether a R or a D follows a politicians name. Remember one of the most brilliant quotes of President Ford: “A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have."
Of course one might wonder why anyone would be asking Greenspan his opinion since his loose credit policies have had so much to do with the collapse in our country. But naturally in our current political culture failure is rewarded. Once upon a time honor demanded that you fall on your sword if you failed.

This is an email in response to a heads up on a private email list regarding the Pajama Media initiative "Conservatism 2.0"
It (Conservatism 2.0) will be interesting if it actually adopts conservative positions instead of knee jerk support President Bush’s positions. We don’t need any more No Children Left Behind, Prescription Drug Benefits, Islam is the Religion of Peace, Killing Free Enterprise to Save It, Bail Out Everyone Because Failure is Unacceptable, Shamesty, A Republican Party That Nominates A Guy Who Threw the Race for President, Bipartisanship a Value Unto itself and the rest of the nonsense forced upon us by "Compassionate Conservatives"….aka as Democrats.
We need to stop listening to folks like Parker, Frum, Krauthammer and the rest of the Democrats who call themselves Republicans. We will never win by being Democrats lite. We will win by having someone at the top of the Republican Party who can actually defend the idea of Freedom. Who doesn’t reach for Government everytime something goes wrong. Who can defend freedom for its own sake. Who revels in the individual…not the State.
We ran Moderate McCain a man who is renowned for his bipartisanship and if he didn’t deliberately THROW the election he ran the most incompetent campaign in the history of politics. Never again a moderate…freedom is not a moderate value. I do not want to be moderately free.
We have seen such men and women before…we need to get rid of the establishment who gave us McCain and find those sorts of folks who gave us those who love Freedom. It is worth defending.
And this idea that government is beholden to the people, that it has no other source of power except the sovereign people, is still the newest and the most unique idea in all the long history of man’s relation to man.
This is the issue of this election: whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capitol can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.
You and I are told increasingly we have to choose between a left or right. Well I’d like to suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There’s only an up or down: [up] man’s old — old-aged dream, the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order, or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. And regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would trade our freedom for security have embarked on this downward course.

PS to my email. I believe that Governor Sarah Palin has the natural instincts to fit this description. She may not be able to describe it in eloquent terms yet but she does something far more valuable than that…she lives it. No other politician on the national scene understands our craving for freedom as well as Governor Palin. That is why she was attacked by the cynical political handlers around McCain, they cannot stand anyone who shows them for what they are…corrupt and cynical folks who haven’t a clue about freedom.

So Allahpundit is having a hard time gloating over the Obamamessiah’s HUGE Gaffe, not me. But it is even funnier when you consider that Obama STOLE the lines from a Blog on the Democrats Public Website. He not only stole the lines about Lipstick on a Pig but he also stole the lines he uttered right before he stuck the entire Democratic Tickets foot into their collective mouths. Isn’t that clever of the ONE? Not satisfied with stealing this material he then goes back to this post and steals THIS.
The question becomes who is Elizabeth Berry and does the ONE read her blog? Sure seems like someone might be.
And the old saw of being careful what you ask for will never be more evident. After all it is the right side of the aisle that loves guns and fighting. We haven’t risen up and crushed them yet because one it is against the law and two we look at them as harmless cranks.

Like Rush, I wanted to have Obama as the Democratic Nominee because frankly I thought Hillary would have beat us about the head and shoulders like red haired step children. Ever since then I have been confident about my analysis and I never worried about his supposed magnificence…I knew the American People would see through it. But my gosh I never thought he would be just as bad as he has become. His arrogance covers a stupidity that is monumental!
John McCain is in fighter pilots heaven…on Obama’s six. Obama is flying a transport with one engine flaming, the co-pilot hanging out the door ready to jump and the cockpit is full of smoke.

Now if the Democratic Party wants to make me really happy they will throw Obama under the Bus at the Convention. It is almost obscene to think how much fun it would be to watch the Delegates come to their senses and nominate Hillary. No I am not for Hillary but this slavish loyalty to a gaffomatic clown is like watching a train wreck. Surely the delegates must see it. Isn’t this EXACTLY the situation that the Democrats Super Delegate System was designed to correct? And if the Democrats cannot run their own Party then how can they hope to run a country?
On a side note…wow McCain’s campaign is running pretty strong. Glad I have given him so much of my money!
Bout goddamn time that someone stood up to the idiocy of not drilling into our oil. Thank you Republicans…makes that money I have given to both McCain and the Republicans in the last two weeks sweet. Republicans are threatening filibuster to every Democrat bill if drilling does not go forward.
